Upon returning from an early morning run a few weeks ago, this is what I found.
The layers, the lighting, the color.
This photo made it into my 2016 calendar for the month of September. Though shot in August, it has that feel of fall approaching.

2016 Calendars for Sale!
I just finalized my 2016 Calendar and have sent the template off to the printer!
It's rather bitter sweet because it means the year is half way over.
However, I'm so excited to share this years portfolio of my favorite photographs - I think it is by far my best one yet!
Pre-order yours today!
Calendars can be purchased from my shop on Etsy.
They measure 8.5x11", are spiral bound and made of quality satin paper stock.
They will be shipped out by the end of August.

Weekend Giveaway! {6x6 Canvas Wrap featuring Flax Blooms}
This year has been a wild ride!
In January it was my desire to really grow my photography business.
I chose to stop shooting portraiture and focus on my passion of landscape/macro photography, shooting the places that I deeply love, those found in my state of South Dakota.
I changed my website entirely, started an Instagram account and increased my blog posts.
I have been getting lots of hits on my website every day, increased sales, interest, and feedback.
This fall I will be going to three art festivals, which is a huge step for me. I'm so excited, but nervous.
I want to say THANK YOU to all of you who have offered your support, your encouragement, your likes on Facebook and Instagram. You taking the time for me has meant a great deal, even if it was just a click or two taps, it still means something to this girl.
So, with the sappiness being said, I'm offering my first Weekend Giveaway!

Abstract Prairie Landscapes
Last month I spent an evening near the White River shooting the river breaks as the sun set.
While I waited for the perfect lighting I played around with panning to create some abstract images.
Panning involves moving the camera on an even plane either horizontal or vertical while using a longer shutter speed. You can find the definition here on Wikepedia.
These are my results.
I love them. Especially this first one. I call it "Rolling Prairie," because that's what I see when I look at it. The colors just roll and blend together. They are cool yet warm and comfortable. There is a peace and gentleness here.
Today my soul is at rest because I trust.
I trust the Lord and know that He will never leave me or forsake me.
No matter what circumstances may come that will test this, I can lean on the truths of His Word that says He will always stay.
There is peace. I feel it when I look at this image.
Quiet rest.
This is what it looked like as a still shot. The colors will be a little different because I shot 'Rolling Prairie' later in the evening as the light contrast softened into the the Golden Hour. The following picture was taken earlier in the evening with more harsh white light visible.
These next two I shot through the grass towards the setting sun.
I think "Rolling Prairie" is now in my top 10. I will have it available for purchase at my upcoming art shows (see link) or you can find it on my website.

2015 First Lady's Prairie Art Showcase
This morning I received some highly anticipated news.
An acceptance letter came for me to attend the 2015 First Lady's Prairie Art Showcase. I've applied for this art show several years and I couldn't be more excited that this year I've made it!
Thank you, Linda Daugaard and the rest of the art show committee, for choosing me!
(I actually screamed when I read the letter and I don't scream about very many things. The only things I can think of at the moment are when some friends got engaged and then when they found out they were expecting twins.)
30 artists throughout the state of South Dakota are chosen to showcase during the Governor's Invitational Pheasant Hunt, an event the state hosts for business prospects and journalists from across the country.
For more events I will be participating in, please click on the following link to the Upcoming Shows page on my website: http://www.cristenjoyphotography.com/#!/p/upcoming-shows.
