Wind Carved Snow Drift {Receives Best of Show}

Last night, my family and I attended the Dahl Mountain Photography Exhibit artist reception. This event is hosted by the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City, SD. My photograph, Wind Carved Snow Drift, is one of the 49 pieces on display. The exhibition started yesterday (March 10, 2017) and ends April 29, 2017.
Visitors have the opportunity to vote for the Peg Sagen Memorial People's Choice Award, which will be announced after the show ends.

Apparently we're all about silly faces in this picture and I didn't get the memo.

My photograph is printed on Acylic and is 12x24 in size. This is one of my favorite images and I love how it looks behind acrylic. You can read more about my printing styles here.

 This year's judges were Steve Babbit (Photography Professor at Black Hills State), Chris Huber (Photo Editor of the Rapid City Journal) and Ray Tysdal (Professional Photographer). Last year, both Steve and Chris judged the show which I thought would be the case this year as well. When I realized Ray was also a judge, I was rather excited because I deeply admire his work.

Wind Carved Snow Drift received the Best of Show award! When Ray presented it, he said there was no mistaking which photo was chosen for this. To hear his words and to meet him was especially meaningful for me.

I feel both greatly humbled and absolutely ecstatic for this photograph to receive such an award.
Thank you, to all!

Glorious Splendor

Years ago, I read all of L. M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables books and loved Sullivan's 1985 movie. I always got a kick out of Anne naming Barry's Pond "The Lake of Shining Waters."

My dear Grandma, who passed away five months ago, had nicknames for each of her grandchildren. She always called me "Snooks." I have no idea where she came up with this.

Having her genetics and loving the character of Anne Shirley, I sometimes create names for places I love. Where I'm standing in the following photographs I named "Glorious Splendor." *
It is the highest hill in the pasture south of my house.

The view up here is just amazing!

These three photos are my favorites of this particular angle of the SSE. I love the lines of the rolling hills. I love the contrast of shadows and outline of the hills at sunset.
And the sky! Ever changing, every beautiful.

* Pslam 145: 1-7
I will extol You, my God, O King,
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised,
And His greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of Your majesty
And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.

Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts,
And I will tell of Your greatness.
They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness
And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.
